Fetal Blood Collection

Fetal blood collection is by means of cardiac puncture (after the hide has been split), employing a closed vacuum system. This ensures there is no possible contamination of blood, and provides a maximal blood yield per foetus, together with low levels of haemolysis. Blood yield and quality are monitored throughout each collection period, all blood is chilled in an ice slurry immediately following collection and is converted into raw serum within 12 hours.

All of Bio International's fetal serum is produced in Hamilton New Zealand, and each batch is monitored during production. Prior to sterile filtration individual batches are quality tested.
